Serral Qualifies for $100K WCS Montreal

ENCE eSports’ Starcraft 2 frontman Joona ‘Serral‘ Sotala has claimed his spot as one of the 16 players to qualify for the $100,000 WCS event in Montreal, Canada.

The 2017 WCS Montreal is the fourth and last of four events of the 2017 WCS Circuit.

It takes place at DreamHack Montreal 2017 and is organized by DreamHack (main tournament) and ESL (regional qualifiers).

Serral, considered one of the best Starcraft players in the world, will not only be fighting for the top prize of $25,000 but also his share of the 11,000 WCS Circuit points that are so crucial throughout the season.

Serral has qualified alongside 4 other Zerg players with Nordic rival Namshar on the list. Other top talents such as ShoWTimE and Cham also made it through the open stage.

The format for the event is as follows:

First Group Stage

64 players in 16 groups of 4 players each, played in a dual tournament format
Matches are Bo3
Top 2 players of each group advance to the next stage
Second Group Stage

32 players in 8 groups of 4 players each, played in a dual tournament format
Matches are Bo3
Top 2 players of each group advance to the next stage
Third Group Stage

16 players from the Second Group Stage
16 players from Qualifiers
8 groups of 4 players each, played in a dual tournament format
Matches are Bo3
Top 2 players of each group advance to the playoffs
Playoffs

16 players in a single-elimination bracket
Round of 16 to Semifinals are played in Bo5
Finals are played in Bo7

Prize Distribution:

1st. $25,000 | WCS Points: 3,000 & Place in WCS Global Finals
2nd. $10,000 | WCS Points: 1,400
3rd-4th. $6,500 | WCS Points: 900
